LOST LUGGAGE - WHAT A BUMMER!

Airlines continue to loose luggage and clients continue to complain and nobody seems to be getting anywhere fast. Maybe this will help.

Delayed Luggage:
If your bags are delayed, try not to panic. Airlines typically have ways to track them, and about 99 percent of all misplaced luggage is returned.........eventually.  Make sure to file your claim immediately at the airport and to give the attendant a hotel or home address, as well as a phone number where you can be reached.

The airline will typically bring you your luggage when it is found.  Many airlines will reimburse any unexpected expenses caused by the loss or delay. Before you leave the airport, be sure you know how to check on your bag's status.  Airlines have an online system or will provide you with a phone number to call for updates.

Liability is capped on domestic flights within the U.S. at $3,300 per person. International liability varies. Check your carrier's web site for specifics. Receipts may need to be produced and if you have them, include copies in any documentation you send to the airport. The airlines also can depreciate the value of your items and they typically have a long list of items that they will not be held responsible.

Travel Insurance, should be considered, especially if you are traveling with items that can not be replaced - like Wedding gowns, grandma's keepsakes, heirlooms, jewelry. If you can, leave it at home where it is safe, and if not get Travel Insurance. Your homeowners insurance may cover a stolen suitcase; if it doesn't, consider purchasing travel insurance.

Helpful Hint's:
Put your name on the outside of your bags and a copy of your itinerary in each checked bags.
Late check-in and tight connections should be avoided
Valuables go in the carry-on-bags.
Itemize.  Make yourself a packing list and keep it in your carry-on bag.
Destination ticket should be on every bag and you should have a claim ticket for each.
Change of clothes should be in your carry-on-bag.
