UPGRADING THE FAMILY CRUISE

When it's time for fun, multiple generations of the same family increasingly are booking a big-ship cruise. It's the hottest trend for this summer.

Value-added promotions such as, onbooard credits, stteroom upgrades or kids sail free are just some of the programs now available. Many lines have children's supervised activity programs, but it isn't all about the kids anymore.  Each family member should enjoy "me time", and couples need to have a night or two out for romance. Adult groups can go out together by putting the kids in the cruise line's group babysitting or supervised evening activity programs.

For example, parents sailing on Disney Cruise Lines may head out to the night-time entertainment district on each ship. They also have adults only bar, nightclub, or adult only pool.  To occupy the kids there are different levels of clubs and also a nursery for kids 12 weeks up to three years.

Family space and facilities vary with each cruise line so have your travel agent research just what might be available to you and your family needs. Connecting rooms offer more room to spread out, suites are also an easy choice.

Private beach cabanas are sometimes available and can be reserved in advanch. Usually on a first-come first basis. Each line's policy differs so be sure to check on them well in advance. Some amenities in cabanas include, built-in ceiling fans, lounge chairs, floating mats, beach towels, water cooler, and a personal cabana attendant.  Some have upgraded buffet lunch.  Many, many types of cabana's are available and with research one can be found to fit your group or family needs. Pick family centric shore options. The ultimate family excursion is a customized, private shore tour with a private car and driver or small mini-bus.

No matter what kind of family travel you are considering there is always one that can be built just for your needs if necessary.
