HOW TO FIND A CLEAN HOTEL ROOM

Your hotel room ( or rental condo/apartment), is your home away from home, with a few exceptions... hundreds of strangers from every corner of the world have slept there, and the hotel staff may not have the same standards of cleanliness that you do at home.

Germs frequently lurk in places like light switches, television remotes and telephone keypads, even in hotel rooms that otherwise appear clean.

How do I make sure my room is clean?
1. Read the Reviews
(there are no international standards for hotel cleanliness.  Neither price, location or brand name will guarantee completely sanitary digs. )

2. Disinfect
(antibacterial sanitizer could make your life a whole lot cleaner. Spray the phone, door knobs, toilet handle, ice bucket, remote control and bathroom faucet handles.)

3. Avoid  Glassware
(No guarantee that your room glasses and mugs aren't simply rinsed off under the tap by cleaning staff,  or wiped down with the same rag used everywhere else in the room. Pack a mug from home or run hot water and clean your own with soap from the room).

4. Balcony & door handles.( wipe down table tops, chairs and chair rails, where possible.)

* One of the things I carry with me when we travel is a small package of Clorox wipes which work well just about anywhere.

5. Bed Bugs
(tiny little things that feed all night on their victims. Look under the mattress. See an;y                                 reddish  brown spots? If you discover the signs call the front desk immediately and do not put your suitcase, coat or any of your belongings on the bed or near the site.  Get management to move you and if you encounter a stubborn front desk person request to speak to a manager or hotel owner if necessary. Keep your luggage in a trash bag when you leave and vacuum your suitcase when you get home.)
